Reason.tv’s Nick Gillespie talks with economist Arnold Kling and journalist Nick Schulz about their new book, From Poverty to Prosperity (Encounter), which charts the fantastic increase in overall wealth despite recent economic troubles.
Taking a longer view that stretches back decades and even centuries, Kling and Schulz argue that we’ve entered the era of Economics 2.0, in which the key issue is innovation, transformation, and growth, not the divvying up of existing goods and services.
Schulz, the editor of the The American (american.com), and Kling, author also of the new Unchecked and Unbalanced, worry about a politics that is dangerously out of synch with the way the economy actually works.
Approximately 10 minutes. Shot by Dan Hayes and Meredith Bragg; edited by Bragg.

Is there a direct correlation between national income prosperity and gender empowerment?
Why is this the case?
Yes. The cause and effect probably goes both ways and they reinforce each other.

I googled americans for prosperity and it keeps bringing up Koch Family of Foundations.
It’s primarily 2 people, David and Charles Koch, the principal people in a series of charities run by the Koch family, dedicated to giving money to conservative and libertarian causes. The funding comes primarily from the Koch Institute, a $25 Billion dollar privately held corporation, the 2nd largest private company today (all the bigger ones are public).
They have funded several conservative and libertarian groups over the decades, most notably the CATO Institute, a libertarian think tank. I hadn’t heard about their connection to Americans for Prosperity, but it doesn’t surprise me given the funding for the similar groups, Dick Armey with FreedomWorks and Rick Scott with Conservatives For Patient’s Rights, for example. None of these actually have grass-roots funding, they are all top-down directed programs.
I have to answer "to what extent does globalization contribute to sustainable prosperity for all people" and my thesis is basically that that’s impossible.
That it may benefit some but not all, and it may benefit short-term but not always long-term.
But I’m stuck on my three body paragraphs…I’m confused as to what the central idea of each should be. PLEASE help..
also do you agree with my thesis? Why or why not?
Well if by globalization you mean the freeing of trade then it improves everyone’s well being by the fact that it allows a greater level of consumer choice and leads every country towards it’s competitive advantage.

Is making lots of money through conferences to hear big name speakers, selling christian books, cd’s wrong ? shouldnt it be free. And is it wromg preaching prosperity to people saying they will recieve a huge blessing financially in their life if they give money in the offering ? Cause alot of big name preachers are doing it.
All I can say, is who on this earth knows ,what is in another person’s heart?
Only God can judge.
What matters, is that WE are living right ourselves, If other people are doing wrong things, whether it’s a friend, a neighbor or someone on TV, no matter who or where ever they might be, God will handle it.
