  • What does raising taxes of wealthy do to the economy?

Posted by admin on July 14th, 2010 and filed under wealthy | 7 Comments »

When democratic candidates like Barack Obama say that they want to increase taxes of the wealthy, how does this impact the our economy. What changes might take place because of this.

The wealthy already pay a higher percentage than the rest of us. The wealthy are also more likely to invest their money in businesses that give people jobs. If they are the average person gets all the same breaks as the wealthy…….you just have to have the money. The reason the wealthy get big tax write offs is because they are risking their money to invest in corporations that keep the economy going.

John McCain On Taxing Rich People

Posted by admin on July 8th, 2010 and filed under wealthy | 25 Comments »

From the Hardball College Tour, October 12, 2000:

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hi. Since I’ve been studying politics, I’ve had
this question that I’ve never fully understand. Why is it that someone
like my father, who goes to school for 13 years, gets penalized in a
huge tax bracket because he’s a doctor? Why is that — why does he
have to pay higher taxes than everybody else, just because he makes
more money? Why — how is that fair?

    MATTHEWS: You mean…

MCCAIN: I think your question — questioning the fundamentals of a
progressive tax system where people who make more money pay more in
taxes than a flat, across-the-board percentage. I think it’s to some
degree because we feel, obviously, that wealthy people can afford
more. We have over the years, beginning with John F. Kennedy, reduced
some of those marginal tax rates to make them less onerous.

But I believe that when you really look at the tax code today, the
very wealthy, because they can afford tax lawyers and all kinds of
loopholes, really don’t pay nearly as much as you think they do when
you just look at the percentages. And I think middle-income Americans,
working Americans, when the account and payroll taxes, sales taxes,
mortgage pay — all of the taxes that working Americans pay, I think
they — you would think that they also deserve significant relief, in
    my view…

MATTHEWS: How many — how many people here believe that the people who
made the highest level of incomes in this country should pay a higher
percentage of their income in taxes?

Miss, do you want to follow up? Miss, do you want to follow up, do you
want to follow up, do you want to follow up? Go ahead.

MCCAIN: Do you want to follow up? Please…

MATTHEWS: Go ahead, please, go ahead.

MCCAIN: … you were dissatisfied with Chris’s comment, I could tell.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I still don’t see how the — how that’s fair.
Isn’t the definition of slavery basically where you work and all your
money goes? I’m not saying this is slavery, I’m saying that isn’t the
defin — are we getting closer and closer to, like, socialism and
stuff, when you have — you have some people paying 60 percent overall
in a year of their money to taxes. That’s their money, not the
government’s. How is that fair? I haven’t understood it.

MCCAIN: Could I point out, one of the fundamentals of a town hall
meeting is, we respect the views of others, and let them speak. So,
look, here’s what I really believe, that when you are — reach a
certain level of comfort, there’s nothing wrong with paying somewhat
more. But at the same time, that shouldn’t be totally out of
proportion. There’s some countries such as Sweden where it doesn’t pay
anything to work more than six months a year. That’s probably the
    extreme.

But I think the debate in this country is more about tax cuts rather
than anything else. And frankly, I think the first people who deserve
a tax cut are working Americans with children that need to educate
their children, and they’re the ones that I would support tax cuts for
    first.

Who is the artist and wealthy are collector noted for his street scene of the 1870’s using unusual perspectives?

Well, you could be referring to Gustave Caillebotte, or even to Edgar Degas. Both came from wealthy families, and both painted with sometimes unusual perspective.

In the current economic climate, will taxing the wealthy and giving the middle class a break work?

Posted by admin on July 5th, 2010 and filed under wealthy | 9 Comments »

Considering the economy is under the pressure it currently is will increasing taxes on the wealthy not lead to increased unemployment, led by the fact that big business / middle businesses and in fact many small businesses may / will retract from previously planned growth and step their business back to its core business and wait out any depression.

I.E. Taxing only the wealthy, whilst at the same time giving breaks to the middle class, will lead to greater layoffs and a deeper depression / regression which will primarily impact on the middle and lower classes worldwide.

It will help. after all 30 percent of Americans pay no taxes at all, and 66 percent of all corporations pay no taxes . So any added income would help end this mess the country is in. The corporations were supposed to take these tax breaks and create jobs in this country.
Instead they created jobs in other countries and made billions.
I am starting to think a flat tax plan, say 8% for those 21 and over, and 12% for all corporations (no deductions allowed) would be good.

Why are homeless people less concerned about government elections in canada than wealthy people?

Posted by admin on July 2nd, 2010 and filed under wealthy | 5 Comments »

If you ask a homeless person if they wanted the conservatives to be elected or the liberals, they wouldn’t care. If you were to ask someone with a family and money and a job, they would have a strong opinion. How does the government affect wealthy people more?

I believe the reason that you can not comprehend the reason why is because you have never been homeless – which is a good thing. I work with the homeless, the unemployed, poor, disabled – and the truth of the matter is, they have bigger issues on their mind than what is liberalism or what is conservatism.

When basic needs are unmet- people operate from a more primative level- seeking basic needs; shelter, food, and clothing.

It is when not only basic needs are met, but emotional and other needs are met, that a person can begin dwelling on more abstract ideas, and look outward instead of inward.

Tell me, when you are so cold, actually shivering, can you think of anything else? [other than wanting to be warm?]

Here I talk about the difference between physical and mental poverty… how physical poverty is an illusion manifested by governing powers to keep us from understanding the infinite abundance one feels with internal peace.

I talk about how the illusion of material satisfaction has added to our lack of understanding of the self and how it creates a mental state of scarcity where no matter how hard and how long one works, how much money and materials they accumulate… they always feel either fear that it is enough or unsatisfied and in need to look for more.

What do you think about Obama postponing tax increases for the wealthy?

Posted by admin on June 30th, 2010 and filed under wealthy | 14 Comments »

    Lets see here:
He wants to lower taxes for low/middle class.
He realized increasing tax on the wealthy will ruin the economy. ‘Why else would he postpone it’?
He wants to increase spending beyond what this country has ever seen.
He wants to double foreign aid.

Do you ever wonder where all this money is going to come from?

His presidency doesn’t look too promising.

Bush’s excessive tax cuts for the ultra wealthy are one of the reasons we are in this fiscal mess.
FDR got us out of the depression by raising taxes of the super rich from zero to 90%.
55 cents of every Bush tax cut dollar went to ultra rich.
We have to realize that taxes are not bad in and of themselves.
Wasteful spending is bad. Supporting the infa structure is good. The money has to come from somewhere. Let’s put the burden for saving the country fiances on the shoulders of those who benefit most from a strong economy.
One pendent has said that the poor and middle class sacrifice their lives or the lives of their sons , daughter, fathers or mothers for this war in Iraq. What is so bad about having the ultra rich temporally sacrifice some of their excess wealth for the duration of the war. What would happen if we raised the tax rate to 90% for the super rich billionaires for the duration of the war? I’lll tell you what would happen. The war would be over tomorrow.
Obama will let the Bush tax cuts expire on time.
